This was my grandma Pat's spaghetti sauce. She served it all the time went we were over there for dinner before sleeping over when we were kids.

  • 0.25 large onion, chopped and loosely packed
  • 0.5 (2 g) clove garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil

Saute onion and garlic in hot oil in a large pot over low heat for 5 minutes.

Add beef; brown over medium heat, breaking up meat with a fork as it cooks.

  • 2 cups canned whole tomatoes
  • 1.5 fl. ozs. tomato paste
  • 2 Tbsp (30 g) water
  • 2 Tbsp celery, chopped and loosely packed
  • 1 Tbsp fresh parsley, chopped and loosely packed
  • 12 tsp (3 g) salt
  • 12 tsp (2 g) white granulated sugar
  • 14 tsp basil
  • pinch of black pepper
  • 0.5 bay leaf
  • 2 cups canned whole tomatoes
  • 1.5 fl. ozs. tomato paste
  • 2 Tbsp (30 g) water
  • 2 Tbsp celery, chopped and loosely packed
  • 1 Tbsp fresh parsley, chopped and loosely packed
  • 12 tsp (3 g) salt
  • 12 tsp (2 g) white granulated sugar
  • 14 tsp basil
  • pinch of black pepper
  • 0.5 bay leaf

Stir in the remaining ingredients.

Bring mixture to boiling; reduce heat; simmer, stirring occasionally 3 hours, or until sauce is thick.

Remove bay leaves; skim; or chill, then skim off hardened fat.
